Part 8 - Why People Do This Again
I used to wonder if families really choose to go through this again.
Yes… because it’s worth it.
Worth it for the laughs. Worth it for the smiles. Worth it for the way my baby lights up first thing in the morning simply because he sees my face.
And also because we’re designed to forget.
I hear this again and again from women: time softens the edges of even the hardest days.
Some forget naturally. Some choose to forget. Some choose to remember… and talk about it.
I’m choosing to remember.
Part 9 - Why I'm Sharing This
Before closing this part of my postpartum series, I want to name the joy too… because it certainly exists.
Firsts we’ve held onto: stroller walk at 10 days old, social smile at 5.5 weeks, laugh at 3 months, swimming (favorite activity hands-down) at 3.5 months, sitting up at 4.5 months.
This series is anchored in growth, bonding, and forward movement… not just survival.
Someone once told me they thought something was wrong with them for not enjoying every moment of postpartum life.
Nothing is wrong with you.
Postpartum mental health struggles are real. They are common. And they are still not talked about enough.
My hope in sharing this, piece by piece, is simple:
- That someone feels seen
- That someone feels validated
- That someone realizes they are not broken
We should talk about this. Out loud. Without shame.
